| The increasing concern about the spread of pests such
as the Asian long horn beetle which was carried in wood packaging
from China to America thus resulting in many trees having to be felled
to stop the pests from spreading, has meant that many countries have
adopted ISPM15 to control the import of wood packing.
ISPM15 (International Phytosanitary Standard for Wood Packaging)
relates to the treatment of pallets & other wood packaging for
export to most countries including the EU, North America, Canada,
Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, China & Korea.
To date over 130 countries have adopted ISPM15, but as the legislation
is currently quite new, please check up to date information regularly,
as non compliance could result in your goods being quarantined or
even destroyed. For the current ISPM15 Global Guide visit www.timcon/org
There are two approved methods of treatment: Heat Treatment (HT)
– requires the wood packaging to be heated to a core temperature
of 56 degrees for a minimum of 30 minutes: Fumigation (MB) –
requires wood packaging to be fumigated using Methyl Bromide. ISPM15
also recommends that the wood be debarked prior to treatment (DB).
Theaker Recycling Ltd is accredited to manufacture & treat
reconditioned and new pallets to ISPM15 by both forms of treatment
HT56/30 & MBDB.
Although certification is not normally required as the wood packaging
is stamped twice with accredited mark as shown above (this is individual
to each accredited company), we can produce a certificate if required.
When ISPM15 compliant pallets are repaired, the pallets have to
be retreated and marked, any previous marks must be removed.
